At its 2022 Gala Dinner on Saturday, the Solomon Islands Australia Alumni Association (SIAAA) celebrated the strong relationship between Solomon Islands and Australia.

SIAAA has over 500 members who are alumni from Australian tertiary institutions and from Australia Awards Scholarships in Australia or the Pacific.

SIAAA President, Ernest Teutao, welcomed the guests saying, “SIAAA is an important platform where alumni come together, share unique ideas, develop professional networks, access mentoring and leadership opportunities, and give back to the community. We are thankful to the governments of Australia and Solomon Islands for investing in the country’s education, and the development of the next generation of future global leaders through Australia Awards.”

The Australian High Commissioner to the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Dr Lachlan Strahan, said, “People-to-people links play a vital role in sustaining and protecting the broader relationship between two countries and that is why programs like the Australia Awards are so important. You [Australia alumni] have come back to your country with all sorts of specialised skills and soft skills and you will make your contributions that build a stronger, more resilient, more prosperous, more inclusive, Solomon Islands.”
