Healthy hygiene practises and safety procedures are strictly adhered to by frontline team who were supervised by the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) Camp Management Committee to take care of the quarantined persons.
After the establishment of the Institutional Quarantine Facilities (IQF’s), Monday 23rd March 2020, the Camp Management Committee field officers, as observed, worked under meticulous protocols to ensure they will not contract any possible trace of coronavirus and more importantly, respect dignity and privacy of the quarantined persons.

“When doing the distribution of food, hygiene kits provided by World Vision through Australian Government funding, water bottles and attending to their needs, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE’s) must be worn.

“Our officers maintain a safe distance whilst fronting the quarantine persons if a request arises,” Chairman of Camp Management, Karl Kuper, of the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
“We are not in any way careless in our efforts and take the restrictions put upon us very seriously,” he adds.
Mr. Kuper further adds that the front-line workers were trained on safety rules by Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS).
The front-liners, when returning to the National Disaster Head Office at Ranadi for debriefing late in the afternoons have to undergo decontamination located at the back of the office. They are required to remove their PPE’s such as masks, protective suits and gloves for disposal and continue on disinfection of plain wears and shoes.
The Camp Management Sector Committee working partner groups are the National Emergency Response Team, personnel from Ministry of Home Affairs, Solomon Water Ltd, Solomon Islands Red Cross, World Vision International SI and Churches.
There are four specially trained emergency response officers heading the operation on managing the IQF’s. They can be deployed at short notice to help in the general administration and technical support in the event of a major emergency and disaster including natural disasters (earthquake, tsunami, floods and others), environmental disasters (oil spill) and pandemic such as the current COVID-19.
Though there are challenges which the Camp Management Team faces, yet they has gone about doing the job in the best possible ways.
Remaining passengers undergoing the compulsory quarantine will be certified by medical doctors referring them as ‘graduated persons’ before they are allowed to go home by end of this week.
