New Miss Solomon Islands Elsie Polosovai is a queen with a humble beginning — starting her early childhood education in her native Choiseul to doing university studies in New Zealand, where she now resides.
She was born on 5th August 2001 to her parents, Peter Polosovai from Bina of West Kwaio, Malaita and Vuruleke North East Choiseul and to Mary from Dara in South Choiseul.
She started her education at Choiseul Bay Kindergarten before attending St. Nicolas Primary Anglican College. She then went onto Thumbellina Early Learning Centre in Fiji before spending time at Vatuwanqa Primary School and Redout North School. She left Fiji for Tangaroa College in New Zealand. Elsie is now a third year student at Otago University, Dunedin doing Bachelor of Science, majoring in Human Nutrition.

Elsie moved to New Zealand in 2014 with her parents.
“We moved to New Zealand in 2014 for study purposes then we decided to stay on for our children to get quality education, better health services and generally to raise our children there,” said her mother, Mary, in response to a question from SBMOnline.
They currently live in Auckland.
When asked why did her daughter decide to participate in the MSIP pageant? Mary replied: “It has been her wish to participate in the past MSIP where she hopes to utilise the platform to promote and advocate for women’s health.”
Elsie who took part in the event as Miss Lauru, representing her home province, was declared Miss Solomon Islands ahead of five other contestants on Saturday night.
According to her mother, Mary, the win means a lot to them as parents.
“The win means a lot to us, we’re proud parents here.We are looking forward to continue supporting Elsie’s journey towards the preparation for Miss Pacific Pageant,” she said.
The Miss Solomon Islands will compete against other contestants from the Pacific Islands for the Miss Pacific Crown next year in Honiara.
