Western and Choiseul Provinces took delivery of much needed food supplies to support the operations of their Quarantine and Isolation stations. Yesterday Patrol Boat RSIPV Taro delivered 1 ton of rice and 50 cartons of Noodles to Gizo and Taro.

The assistance is part of the National Disaster Council (NDC) arrangement to support camp management functions at the two provinces. Similar assistance will be provided to other PDOCs once requests come through to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).

Speaking from Gizo this morning Provincial Disaster Officer Mr. Danny Ruel said the food supplies will go towards supporting the operation of Quarantine and Isolation Stations in Noro, Gizo and Munda.

Mr. Ruel said the plan is also to send part of the supplies to be kept at the Nila On-Site Coordination Centre (OSOCC) on standby incase the centers are activated without notice. This is important because it is very difficult to access such goods at the border area given the recent restrictions placed on vessels travelling to the provinces.

“I thank the Government through NDC for this very timely assistance because we are now starting to experience difficulties in managing the quarantine and isolation stations as our resources are beginning to be stretched. Western Province Disaster Office will ensure the goods are distributed out as soon as possible” he said.

Meanwhile Choiseul Province also received the same assistance under the same arrangement.
