The much-debated Economic Stimulus Package Report will now be debated in Parliament next Friday (15th November) as a private member motion to be moved by the leader of Opposition, Matthew Wale.
The motion was put on notice on 4th October and the notice period has been satisfied and it is now ready for debate, announced the PM, Jeremiah Manele today.
Manele told Parliament that since it is a private member’s motion and as prescribed under the Standing Orders, the motion can only be debated on a Friday.
Parliament adjourned following today’s meeting until Friday next week when Wale will move the motion.
“This is to allow the leader of opposition to move the motion that stands against his name,” said the PM.
Manele said the ESP Report is one of public interest and it is only right that Parliament considers it.
“The GNUT believes that we must discharge our duty by considering this audit report,” he said.
Parliament will resolve into committee of the whole house to consider the report, by page by page.
The report was heavily debated on the social media with many calling for action against those who were implicated in the report.
The report highlighted how the $309m ESP was used and found many breaches on how funds were dished out to recipients.
In his latest statement, Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau stated that they were still waiting on report from Office of the Auditor General on referral(s) for investigation.
