EAST FATALEKA KEEN TO OPEN UP LAND FOR DEVELOPMENT

The Office of the Prime minister & Cabinet was this week hosted to a presentation by the Fotana Tribal Land Trust board on the “East Fataleka Industrial Development Plan” a 50 year Action Plan aimed at the creation of a peaceful, harmonious and progressive community to improve the socio and economic livelihood of the people of East Fataleka, Malaita Province.

Representing the Policy Implementation Monitoring & Evaluation Unit (PIMEU) of the OPMC, Dr. Samson Viulu thanked the Malaitan Community Leaders of the Fotana Land Trust board for initiating the meeting and sharing their vision in informing PIMEU of their intention to allow their Land in East Fataleka collectively consisting of 6000 hectares of land, 7 registered & 8 Customary plots respectively identified for development purposes.

Mr. Dave Tafoa a trustee of the FTLTB in his presentation said the Fotana Land itself which is registered Perpetual Land was intended and demarcated to host an International AirPort, a Tuna Processing Plant, a Resort and Agriculture and Aqua Farming.

Also in attendance during the presentation were reps from the Ongo and Ro’ole tribes who also spoke in support of the presentation by Mr Tafoa.

Dr.Viulu of the OPMC responded after the presentation by FTLTB that this was a beginning of many steps forward and PIMEU would look into their Proposal and make further consultation in finding a way forward to realizing the collective plan for the betterment of East Fataleka, Malaita Province and the Country.
