CSSI Commends ICRC for Support

The Correctional Service Solomon Islands (CSSI) has commends the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for donating mobile phones, free of charge to CSSI today, 31 March 2020.

CSSI Commissioner Gabriel Manelusi says, all social visits been suspended for all Correctional Centres throughout the country as of 23 March 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 threat. This decision has not been made lightly as we know the importance for inmates to contact with their families, friends and legal representatives.

Manelusi acknowledge the ICRC for the timely support in donating nine (09) mobile phones and 500 prepaid plan pack each and will be disseminated to Correctional Centres respectively, and inmates will access this mobile phones to stay in touch with their families and legal visits in a more coordinated manner in the presence of CSSI Officers.

Meanwhile Solomon Islands Red Cross (SIRC), General Secretary Mr Clement Manuri (For ICRC) do thank the CSSI Commissioner and his Executives for the reciprocal partnership and effective collaborations,

“Those donated items are meant to support the beneficiary, at the benefit of the detainee population housed in your facility and should no means be sold. The beneficiary is held responsible to ensure the appropriate agreed humanitarian use of the items donated. The ICRC will not be responsible for storage, transport and any damages caused after donation”.
