Mata Valley community of West Kola ridge in Central Honiara is one of the vulnerable communities facing hardship in accessing services in Honiara town. Often, they have to walk many miles away to be able to get a transport to town as there was creek that separating them with the other ridge.
It is with this challenge that CAUSE Project seen it fit to fund and construct a footbridge to allow them to access services in town.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony this afternoon Mr. Cris Afable CAUSE Project Manager said the office is pleased to see the project has finally completed which will help the community a lot in terms of accessibility.
Councillor for Kola ward Hon. Francis Idu applauded his community for the partnership and urge them to look after the infrastructure for the years to come. The same sentiments were also echoed by the MP for Central Honiara Hon. Alfred Efona who was the guest of owner at the handing over ceremony this afternoon.
The project took six months to be completed and was constructed mainly by women and few men of the community who were trained by CAUSE Project.
The 12 meters footbridge is made of steel and timber decking.
Funding of the project comes from the World Bank.
