Solomon Islands powerlifter Rocky Manisiu Ramo who won bronze in the 2023 Pacific Games has his medal upgraded to silver after the second-place finisher (silver medalist) was tested positive for anti-doping.

This morning, Ramo’s medal upgrade was announced by the minister of home affairs Isikeli Tuwai Vave Jnr making the silver medal count to 38 of the 79 medals Team Solomon won at the games.

“The upgrade of this medal from bronze to silver brings back good memories of the 2023 Pacific Games even though it is over a year ago. In my travels around the region, the Games hosted in Honiara are still noted as a success. This has raised the profile of our country in a positive way,” he said.

Vave said while the circumstances of the upgrade from bronze to silver were due to an anti-doping issue for another athlete, it still reflects that Team Solomon achieved these results through total commitment to competing cleanly.

“We are determined that Team Solomon, in all sports, is known for its integrity and commitment to clean sport,” he said.

“With many of our athletes achieving their dreams at the 2023 Pacific Games, I want to see our results improving. These results are not just on the field of play but also off it. Again, I am determined to ensure that all our sports bodies comply with the principles of good governance. If we achieve this, the results of our athletes will be assured with the support of our High Performance Program through SINIS,” the minister highlighted.
