The Executive of the Solomon Islands Body Building Federation was excited for the first time to formally make a courtesy visit to the Acting Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Maelanga at the Prime Minister’s Office today.
The visit was part of the Federation’s ongoing promotion and familiarization programmes to establish links and partnerships with the Government and other relevant authorities.
The Federation which was formally registered in 2021 is targeting 10 Gold Medals during the 2023 Pacific Games.
The Executive outlined their work programmes as a build up towards the 2023 Pacific Games highlighting some of their challenges and areas that they could effectively partner with the Government to promote.
Currently, the Federation has a membership of seven body building clubs from Honiara, Malaita and Western Provinces.
Amongst some of their immediate promotional programmes is the hosting of the Solomon Islands National Body Building Championship in Honiara this weekend at the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sports (SINIS).
The Federation is also looking at hosting an Oceania and Melanesian body building championship in Honiara later this year as part of their preparations towards the 2023 Pacific Games.
Welcoming the Federation’s initiatives, Acting Prime Minister Maelanga expressed his confidence in the Federation’s target to win ten gold medals in 2023 Pacific games and assured the Executive of the Government’s ongoing support and willingness to prepare athletes for the Games and beyond.
“I am very pleased to learn of your initiatives and programmes as you prepare our athletes for the upcoming Games and I wish to the assure you that the National Government is and will always provide vital support to you and other active federations,” Maelanga said.
Maelanga said the Prime Minister’s target is 40 Gold Medals in the PG2023 and he is confident that one of the prospective sports is body building.
The Executive extends an invitation to Hon. Maelanga this Saturday as Guest of Honor at the National Body Building Championship which he gladly accepted.
