TRAINING BOOST FOR ATHLETES – THANKS TO AUSTRALIA
Honiara, 9th September 2022 – All sport athletes training with a national squad for the 2023 Pacific Games will receive a pair of New Balance athletic sports footwear – thanks to the Australian High Commission, Solomon Islands.
Australian High Commissioner, Dr. Lachlan Strahan handover 850 shoes to the Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) and athletes representing all sports.
“It’s important for us to help the athletes train properly and safely ahead of the games,” says Dr. Strahan
“We have made a strong commitment in supporting the games, and recently the major funding to refurbish some of the school dormitories that will provide accommodation to athletes, and we are also putting some money to part of the best preparations support of athletes to have the right equipment.
“So we are very happy today to be able to handover 850 pairs of shoes to you athletes, and I’m sure you all will give your very, very best at the games to strive for gold.
SINIS Executive Director Aaron Alsop on behalf of the athletes thanked the High Commissioner.
“These donations to the athletes is a small step in that contribution of the sacrifice they made to represent their country. It may not seem a lot to some people, but I know what it does for us and the athletes. So we’ve very grateful for your contribution,” Alsop said.
These is part of the Australian Government’s Sports Diplomacy program in the Pacific, a dedication to sports and providing unique development opportunities in building success.
