H.E. Moses Kouni Mose met the Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Mr Francesco La Camera in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday 21st October, 2021.
The International Renewable Energy Agency is an intergovernmental organization mandated to facilitate cooperation, advance knowledge, and promote the adoption and sustainable use of renewable energy.
During the course of the meeting, Mr Camera confirmed that a request was received on 19 October 2021 from the Solomon Islands for renewable readiness assessment, Climate Investment Platform (CIP) support for project facilitation and access to finance, Solarcity simulator, rooftop solar analysis, strengthening capacity in power purchase agreements, negotiations, contracts, tariff structure, grid stability studies and the design and installation of off-grid and grid connected solar PV.
In principle, the Director General had indicated that IRENA will support this request.
The Climate Investment Platform and its operationalization through the Investment Forums provides support to SIDS in project facilitation and access to finance. Project proposals and concepts are welcomed to be evaluated and matched to the relevant financing partners.
Ambassador Mose used the opportunity to express his gratitude to the Director General of IRENA for the ongoing technical assistance to the Solomon Islands and further highlighted the value of this engagement between the Solomon Islands and IRENA in realizing the country’s Green Energy Policy goals.
