ADRA TOTT project team holds first meeting

The dedicated team behind the Turn On The Tap (TOTT) project at the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Solomon Islands in the Western Province has convened their staff reflections at the Kukudu Sub Office on 24 January 2024.

The reflective session, held at the Kukudu ADRA sub-office,Kolobanagara Island, saw the active participation of project officers, project coordinators, the project builder, and the newly appointed Project Manager for TOTT, Sharon Kele.

The Newly Appointed Project Manager for TOTT, Sharon Kele emphasized during the reflection quoted the booked of Psalm 91:11-13 which reads God’s protection and care for those who trust Him. God will always send his angels to guard and keep us safe from harm and danger.

‘’ Only if we invite Christ, we can defeat whatever comes our way. As we begin the year, we ought to have that confidence of knowing God’s presences and Holy angels will be with us to have our projects achieved with success.’’

She added that ADRA is not an ordinary organization but an Adventist organization that believes in Success of projects, plans, programs only come through having Christ be the Centre of our lives and work.

‘’ I did Acknowledges the team that have worked tirelessly in the past phases of the projects. Work as a team, communicate be vibrate in the work. Because TEAM means T – ogether E- very one A- chieves M – ore, ’’Newly appointed TOTT Project Manager said.

Meanwhile Nedilyn Solomon, the Project Coordinator for TOTT, emphasized objectives of the staff reflection, which included reviewing experiences from the previous year, particularly focusing on the construction team’s projects and the administrative team’s work experiences.

“We have scrutinized our mistakes and shortcomings from last year. Through this staff reflection, we have identified areas for improvement in the upcoming year,” said Miss Solomon.

“Recognizing our shortcomings has enabled us to enhance our planning, work cohesively as a team, and support each other to successfully complete our projects.”

TOTT Project was funded by ADRA Australia and was successfully implemented by ADRA Solomon Islands. Its aimed was about the Inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure in Solomon Islands schools, combined with a lack of awareness of the menstrual needs of girls, leads to unsanitary environments, ill-health, absenteeism, stigma and poor educational and health outcomes for students, teachers, and surrounding communities.

This project partners with school leaders, education authorities and provincial service providers to improve access to potable water, clean/safe toilets, sustainable menstrual supplies and effective hygiene education in 21 schools in Western Province. It prioritises the needs of girl students and children with disabilities, while building the capacity of school leaders to develop and maintain infrastructure that is compliant with national standards & guidelines.
