RSIPF supports 16 days of Activism

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Crime Prevention Department in both Honiara and provinces are preparing to take part as a stakeholder to battle Gender Based Violence (GBV) in the country as the 16 Days of Activism starts today (25 November 2019).

The 16 days of activism is an annual international campaign that commences on the 25th of November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and continues to 10 December for Human Rights Day. The 16 days campaign is used by organisations around the world to call for the elimination of violence against women and girls.

As part of the campaign, police officers in Buala, Isabel province, Auki, Malaita Province and Tulagi in the Central Province received their banners with the themes that focus on the motto “FPA Hem Protektim Umi Evri Wan.”

Solomon Island focus this year will be based around seven key messages:

• “Safe Women and Children, Safe Home, Safe Family, Safe Nation”

• “Mas Save Lo Rights Blo You!”

• “We are Protected – FPA is Here to Stay!”

• “Save Lo Law, Hem Protectim Iumi Woman”

• “Don’t Suffer in Silence – Report Violence!”

• “Hem Againstm Law For Killim Woman”

•   “Everyone must help survivors of violence”

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Hugo Maelasi says, “During the 16 Days of Activism, our team here in Tulagi hopes to conduct  more awareness about GBV and the Family Protection Act to our communities.”

He adds: “This year we have seen the increase of women coming forward to report their cases and those cases are dealt with and we have good court results.”

“And I would like to see more of our men including young men in our communities taking part of this program.”
