The 2024 National General Elections (NGE) has been declared by the Governor-General, Sir David Vunagi, for 17th of April.
The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission announced this important day via a phone text message.
It says the Governor General declares 17th April as Polling Day today. Election campaigning also starts on this day of announcement.
Nomination opens tomorrow (Wednesday) in the provincial headquarters (HQ), the text concluded.
The Election Nomination fees are, Parliament – $5000, Provincial- $2500, and Honiara City Council – $2500, the SIEC announced in another text message earlier.
This will be the first time that the national, provincial (most provinces) and the Honiara City Election will be held together since independence.
The NGE should have taken place last year but it was delayed for seven months with the passage of a constitutional amendment allowing the government to host the Pacific Games in December last year.
