6 Solomon Islanders who stranded in Canada are finally on their way home

Six Solomon Islands nationals who were stranded in Canada due to COVID-19 flight restrictions are today finally coming back home.

The group were today joined at Vancouver’s International Airport by Solomon Islands Hon. Consul General Ashwant Dwivedi.

Also they were joined by Air Canada’s officials and Medical officials who oversaw their departure. They received wide support from airline staff facilitating their journey ahead.

During his brief address at the YVR International airport Mr. Dwivedi took the opportunity to thank the people and the Government of the United States for their support and facilitating transit visas for the nationals that made it possible for the group to transit United States for their connecting flight into Honiara.

“In this difficult time I thank the US Consulate General, its non-immigrant visa section and other agencies of the US government for their support. Thank you Tumas United States ” Mr Dwivedi said.

Mr. Dwivedi further thanked the Canadian government for helping facilitate the stay of the nationals in Canada while secure flight path was discovered for the nationals.

The six are expected to arrive in the country on Sunday.
