30 to contest four wards in Ulawa Ugi constituency

A total of 30 candidates will be contesting the Makira Ulawa provincial Assembly’s elections in the four wards in Ulawa Ugi constituency, in Makira Ulawa province.

The four wards in the Ulawa Ugi constituency are; North Ulawa Ward, South Ulawa, West Ulawa and the Ugi and Bio wards.

In the North Ulawa Ward, one of the three wards on Ulawa Island, a total of nine candidates are vying for the North Ulawa Ward for this year’s elections where the outgoing will not be defending the seat as he is amongst the nine candidates contesting for the Ulawa Ugi constituency Parliamentary seat.

In the South Ulawa ward, which is one of the biggest wards on Ulawa Island, they also have a total of nine candidates battling for the South Ulawa assembly seat with the outgoing MPA for West Ulawa, Mr. Brook Wa’o who is also a senior Minister in the outgoing Julian Makaa led Government also contesting deciding not to defend the West Ulawa Ward seat.

The outgoing MPA for the South Ulawa Ward, who took the seat in the 2019 Makira Ulawa Provincial assembly elections Mr. Joe Takeli will not be defending the seat in this year’s elections giving chance for others to contest in this year’s elections.

With the West Ulawa ward, a total of six candidates are heading to the polls for the West Ulawa Ward. With the former MPA, Mr. Brook Wa’o now contesting in the South Ulawa Ward, the West Ulawa Ward is anticipating a new representative to represent them in the Makira Ulawa Provincial assembly for the next four years.

Finally with the Ugi and Bio ward, they also have registered a total of six candidates where one of them is the only female to contest in the four wards in the Ulawa Ugi constituency electorate in this year’s Synchronized elections next month.

Many of the candidates contesting the provincial elections have now commences campaigning around their respective wards and some are yet to kick off their campaigns.

To conclude, a total of 39 candidates all together will be contesting this year’s synchronized elections for in the Ulawa Ugi Electorate; nine in the National Level and 30 in the Provincial level.
