Friday 11 July, Honiara – Women in Executive Leadership Solomon Islands (WELSI) congratulates Ms Caroline Kanoko on her appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Solomon Islands Postal Corporation.

“WELSI supports women in leadership positions, and we are committed to promoting gender equality in executive roles,” WELSI President, Ms Pamela Naesol Alamu, said.

“Women in leadership face barriers that are both visible and invisible. By providing women with the support, networks, and opportunities they need to rise into executive positions, WELSI is dismantling those barriers one by one,” she added.

The newly appointed CEO Ms Kanoko was a participant of WELSI’s Solomon Islands Senior Executive Women in Leadership Program before taking up her new appointment.

“It is a significant achievement for professional women in the Solomon Islands to see one of our fellow women step into that CEO position and what makes it more special for WELSI was that the appointment came through during this SISEWL Program. It is a positive step for our women and a milestone for WELSI,” Ms Alamu said.

“Caroline is someone that possess so much leadership qualities and it was not a surprise that she was appointed into this this CEO role.

Ms Kanoko is humbled by her appointment and shares encouragement for aspiring executive women leaders in Solomon Islands.

“Do your best,” she said. “Because it is not about you and me, it is about people seeing our performance and realizing our potential and how we deliver to expectations.

“In the cooperate ladder, it is all about performance. So, work hard and perform and build a good character. Character is more than your level of education, it is something you gain through experience,” she said.

Ms Kanoko highlighted that there are different challenges women are faced with when striving for leadership positions within their organisations but should not see their male colleagues as one of those challenges.

“Being a woman in the professional ladder, I do not see men as a challenge. The challenge is the relationship between female and male colleagues. It is the culture in the workplace that’s important,” she said.

WELSI is an initiative that was birthed through a strategic collaboration between the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) and the Institute of Solomon Islands Accountants (ISIA).

WELSI is about mentorship, capacity building, and creating pathways that ensure women can ascend to the highest levels of corporate leadership with confidence and competence.
