The non-executive members of the Western Provincial Government have submitted a notice of Motion of No Confidence in the leadership of the Premier, Hon. Billy Veo. Although an initial notice submitted by Hon. Calrick Runimetu was rejected due to a lack of substantive grounds, a second notice submitted late this afternoon was approved by the Provincial Assembly Speaker.

The former Deputy Premier, Hon. Runimetu, stated the misuse of power and public funds as reasons for the no confidence in the leadership of the Premier. With the notice now handed to the Premier’s office, Hon. Billy Veo told the local media that his executive is well prepared for any Motion of No Confidence. “My executive team is focused on the upcoming provincial assembly meeting and is ready to face whatever allegations they bring”, Hon. Billy Veo stated. The Premier further reiterated that “there’s no concrete evidence” on the allegations the non-executive included in their notice.

As of this afternoon, the Premier said his executive team has 14 members. Their only absentee this afternoon during their meeting is the Deputy Premier, Hon Brian Lotikena, who is currently in China on an official trip. Hon. Veo said that although the deputy premier is currently away, he should be back to join the team on the 27th of this month.

The Western Provincial Government will have its full assembly meeting on the 28th of this month. It is believed that the Motion of No Confidence will be tabled after 7 clear days from today, most probably on the 30th or the 31st of this month.
