The Valuers Council of Solomon Islands has marked a major milestone with the election of its new office bearers for the 2025–2028 term—ushering in a new era for the body dedicated to advancing the valuation profession in the country.

The election was held during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Valuers Association of Solomon Islands (VASI) in September, where seven new council members were chosen. A formal handover ceremony took place on October 10, 2025, at the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey conference room in Honiara. The event, officiated by both outgoing and incoming presidents, brought together council members from both terms to mark a smooth and symbolic transition of leadership.

In his remarks, the newly elected President, Leonard Rano Rotu, highlighted the significance of the handover, acknowledging the dedication and hard work of the outgoing council.

“This ceremony, held exactly one month after our VASI AGM, recognises the tireless efforts of the outgoing team in managing the association’s affairs leading up to this election,” Mr. Rotu said. “It is now the dawn of a new era for our council bearers to elevate our responsibilities. I urge us all to strengthen the valuation profession, support our members, and promote the vital role of Valuers—not just in assessing land and property, but in shaping the future of the Solomon Islands through our expertise. Through teamwork and shared commitment, we can propel the association to even greater heights.”

Outgoing President Silva Dunge also expressed appreciation and confidence in the new leadership.

“I extend my deepest thanks to the outgoing members for their unwavering support over the past three years,” he said. “I have full trust in the incoming council to continue our work. The Valuers Council has been instrumental in advancing our constitution and preparing the groundwork for the Valuation Act—key priorities I encourage the new office bearers to pursue diligently. Together, we look forward to a brighter future for the council and the profession.”

The ceremony concluded with the formal handover of administrative documents, followed by a planning session outlining key priorities for the next three years. The transition reaffirmed the council’s ongoing commitment to professional development, regulatory progress, and contributing to sustainable national growth.

Under the Valuers Act 2009, only licensed Valuers are legally permitted to practise valuation in the Solomon Islands.
