Please allow me space in your SBM column to share my personal views on the above subject. To put my thoughts into the correct perspective and direct to the core subject of this article. To answer the above topic honestly and truthfully is that the status of Solomon Islands Football Federation/SIFF standard is degrading and demeaning from what Solomon Football is previously known for in the Oceania region. It is a history now thus I do not want to dwell over it but what caught my attention to share my thoughts is based on the following questions.
· What are the causes of Solomon Islands Football standards to degrade and demean its national status? Please can someone advise?
· Over the years SIFF contracted foreign Coaches to date. What are the improvements and legacy in terms of soccer development? Please can someone advise?
· What is the point of owning and having direct access to state-of-art design sports stadiums and facilities when our performances in sports like soccer are below expectation? Please can someone advise?
· I want to know where SIFF went wrong thus no improvement in Football in spite of millions and millions of dollars received. Please can someone advise?
· I recalled there was a youth team/club called “Royals” sent to the United Kingdom to develop their soccer skills in training. What is the outcome of the Royals development team towards improvement of our local soccer programs and football standard? Please enlighten us on this matter.
· Can I ask the current SIFF Management to explain what is the strategic framework of its Football Development Plans put in place in order to rescue our football standard to achieve another new height?
It is very interesting to see both SIFF National and Development Teams lost miserably at home soil recently in the Melanesian Prime Minister’s Cup 2024. What a disgrace and humiliation in the face of soccer loving fans in a country football is like a religion second to none. I am expecting both teams to perform well if at least one reaches the final. The SIFF Development Team should at least draw a match with any of its opponents because it is the second best team (should be) in the country. However, the results of both SIFF Teams in the recent Melanesian Prime Minister’s Cup 2024 clearly indicated that something is wrong with SIFF Management and how it is developing and managing football programs and activities in Solomon Islands over the years to date.
Am looking forward to receiving some feedback and new insight information regarding the above said topic to enhance the development of Football in Solomon Islands is heading forward and towards in the right direction.
