Sports Day for media practitioners set

The Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) will be reviving its Sports Event for local media practitioners in the country this Saturday 1 May, 2021 at the SMI compound at Town Ground, east Honiara.

This is part of the activities MASI is hosting in the next couple of days to mark World Press Freedom Day 2021 with the theme ‘Promote Information as a Public Good’ which falls on the 3rd of May.

Organised by MASI’s Sports Sub-committee, the one-day event will bring together media practitioners from the main stream media, freelancers, Government Press and Communication personals, photographers and Media Officers from other organisations, to compete in two sports – Futsal and Volleyball.

Students from SINU’s School of Journalism were also invited to participate in this year’s Media Sports Day.

Twelve (12) teams drawn into three groups will be participating in Futsal with the two top teams from each group progressing to the knock-out stages along with the two best third teams in the groups.

While ten (10) teams will be participating in the Volleyball competition in two groups.

Chairman of the Organising Committee, Philip Lilomo acknowledges Hatanga Ltd, Naya Company and Solomon Breweries Ltd for their support towards the 2021 Media Sports Day.

The Organising Committee would also like to thank local media outlets and all media practitioners for their great interest and support towards this event.

Presentation of prizes will be conducted straight after the grand-finals in each sport with the Futsal winner set to be crowned the first winner of the inaugural MASI Futsal trophy.
