Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare arrives in Washington DC for the U.S- Pacific Island Countries Summit.

Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare has arrived in Washington DC ahead of a two days U.S- Pacific Island Countries Summit beginning tomorrow Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th September (today being Tuesday 27th Sept)

His Pacific Islands Forum colleagues are also arriving in Washington DC for the summit.

Schedule for the two days summit will be tight both for Prime Minister Sogavare, senior government ministers and officials in attendance.

The core agenda for day One include a session on People Centred Development in the Pacific, discussions on the U.S – Pacific Economic and Trade Ties and discussion on Climate Action, Climate Resilience and Clean Energy Transformation.

The day ends with a session on Challenges in the Maritime Domain – Maritime Domain Awareness, IUU Fishing and Maritime Law Enforcement.

Day Two of the Summit begins at the US Chamber on a session called ‘Business and Commerce Social.’

The President and Pacific Leaders will later that day discuss the strategic importance of Pacific and the future of US-PIC relations; and challenges of today – climate Change, pandemic response, economic recovery, and maritime security.

Meanwhile, discussions on the U.S- Pacific Island countries final declaration continues.

The PM delegation’s week long engagements at the 77th UNGA and side line bilaterals at New York last week have been very productive.
