Government has announced a significant increase in Police Clearance Fee, which is currently costing $90 per head will now be $300 as of next year, the Minister of Police, Jimson Tanangada, revealed in Parliament this morning.
The revelation was made during the committee stage of the 2025 Budget, following a question by the Leader of Opposition Matthew Wale who wanted to know why the amount budgeted for under police clearance has increased to $5.3m in next year’s budget.
Tanagada said what has been charged at the moment is $90 per head but it has been regulated that the price will be $300 per clearance.
“We are anticipating to enforce that by next year,” he said.
Wale has requested that the minister withdraw the $300 charge instead maintain it at $100 citing it would be difficult for those whom “we are sending to work under the seasonal work programmes.” However, the minister made no replies to his comments.
Police clearance is mandatory requirement some of which include those that are enrolling to study at universities and other tertiary institutions so as those who are engaged under the seasonal work schemes and also in order to acquire new passports. Also, certain employers require police clearance from those who apply for jobs in their organizations.
