The Bina Project on Malaita is getting momentum as the government is seeking $30m in the Supplement Budget now before Public Accounts Committee to start work on a domestic wharf this year.

Appearing before PAC, Permanent Secretary of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Dr. Christian Ramofafia is seeking the funds from the Development Budget stating that the proposed domestic wharf is to support the project in terms of off-loading of materials and equipment so as to support the community.

He confirms that the wharf is designed by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) who also provide the costing.

The jetty will be built on project land close to Bina village away from the proposed international wharf.

According to Ramofafia, once passed in parliament work on the ground will start this year with actual work starting next year.

Ramofafia said the wharf is an assurance to “our people that we are serious about the project.”
