Following a meeting the Prime Minister, Jeremiah Manele, the Solomon Islands Council of Trade Unions (SICTU) will be embarking on a series of follow-up discussions with key government ministers and officials to address important matters concerning public and private sector workers work conditions and welfare.

In a statement today, SICTU said it would start from the Deputy Prime Minister as minister overseeing operations and extending to selective ministers whose ministerial workers are members of trade unions, including the Minister of Public Service, Minister of Health and Medical Services, Minister of Education and Human Resources Development, and Minister of Police and Correctional Officers.

SICTU will engage in consultations focusing on the welfare of public officers and the improvement of respective ministerial schemes of services for public servants.

Additionally, the statement states that a special consultation will be held with the Minister of Commerce, Industry Labor, and Immigration to address labor issues and related welfare concerns affecting private sector workers across all industries.

“This dialogue will aim to ensure that the rights and welfare of private sector employees are protected and upheld,” it states.

SICTU is committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of all workers in the Solomon Islands, and we look forward to constructive engagements with government officials to achieve positive outcomes for our members and the labor force as a whole.
