SICCI delivers successful Business Excellence Awards 2019

The 2019 edition of Solomon Islands’ leading business event, the Business Excellence Awards (BEA) was yet another success.

Hosted at the Coral Sea Resort and Casino in Honiara on Saturday 30th November 2019, the BEA 2019 saw eleven (11) businesses and organizations being awarded in the different awards categories in front of more than 400 guests who attended the event and television viewers across the country.
Prime Minister Hon Manasseh Sogavare was joined by keynote speaker, Dr Transform Aqorau and SICCI Board Chairman, Jay Bartlett in delivering remarks on this year’s theme ‘Partnerships for a Shared Future’.


And for the first time ever, the BEA was live televised thanks to a collaboration between Telekom Television (TTV) and the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI).
SICCI Board Chair, Mr Bartlett said the BEA is important to celebrate and acknowledge our business participants in creating prosperity and employment contributing from our toils in the nation’s tax base.


“Congratulations to all recipients for your achievements, we hope this event will encourage and inspire you. I also thank all the non-recipients that were unable to receive awards, however, please know that you remain as integral partners for our future,” he said.
This year, the Chamber received the most nominations for awards in the history of the BEAs.

In delivering her welcome remarks, SICCI Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ms Atenasi Ata said the event itself although a flashy and expensive affair, is but one part of the equation and on the other side of it, passion, determination, tireless energy and skills.
“The awards honour the outstanding organizations and individuals who are committed to driving business growth and have taken on the risks and the responsibility to make decisions which can make or break a business with unwavering determination in the face of challenges.


“And this is done displaying integrity and being active players in the communities in which they operate, and our country as a whole. The Awards are organizational, but they also personal in that way,” she said.


Prime Minister Hon Sogavare said the BEAs is a night that gives us an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the businesses who are the drivers of the economy of this country.
“Since its inception in 2013 the Business Excellence Award has grown in stature. Now it is an illustrious and distinguished event that is proudly supported by the Solomon Islands Government and SICCI.


“The Government is committed to support this event in the future, and to continue its mutual partnership with SICCI,” the Prime Minister said.


Solomon Islands National Provident Fund (SINPF) won the ultimate prize of the night which is the Prime Minister’s Business Excellence Awards. SINPF also won the Business Contribution to Sustainable Development & Community Award.
The other award winners for the night included:
• Entrepreneur of the year – Ms. Belinda Botha – Dive Munda
• Large business of the year – Bank South Pacific
• Medium business of the year – SATSOL
• Small business of the year – ATASI
• New business of the year – Bred Bank
• Business Contribution to Sustainable Development & Community Award – SINPF
• Agribusiness of the year – Kokonut Pacific SI
• Innovation and Technology Award – Solomon Power
• Tourism business of the year – Heritage Park Hotel
• YECSI Entrepreneur of the year – Ms. Florence Isihanua of Baby n Fashion


The BEA was initiated by SICCI with the support of the Solomon Islands Government in 2013 and has since been the premier event for Solomon Islands’ business community attracting increased submissions over the years.

The winner of the Prime Minister’s Business Excellence Award took away: 1 x subscription to SATSOL’s premium JETSTREAM fixed Internet plan (8Mbps/4Mbps) with 150GB of data including free installation. This prize is valued at over $11,000 and is courtesy of SATSOL.


The Runner Up of the Prime Minister’s Excellence Award received a 1 x Virgin Airline ticket from Honiara to Brisbane provided by Guadalcanal Travel Solomons (GTS) and a Bred Bank gift bank.
All winners will receive a giftbag courtesy of Our Telekom and Be Mobile valued at $17,600 and a cash prize with thanks to the 2019 BEA Gold Sponsors.
