Police is investigating the death of a male seaweed farmer who died instantly after being punched on the head in Choiseul by another man.
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Wagina and Taro police stations, with the support of RSIPF Forensics, have conducted an investigation in an alleged murder incident which occurred at Terapa Island close to Wagina in Choiseul Province on 19 January 2025 after a short argument.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Berry Pogesopa, said the deceased and the accused are from Canaan village near Noro town who went over to Wagina for seaweed farming.
Pogesopa said on Sunday, 19 January 2025, the deceased and the accused, together with others, were having beer together when an argument broke out, resulting in the suspect punching the deceased on his forehead who died instantly on the scene.
The suspect has been arrested for further dealings while formalities for the post mortem are under way to form part of the police investigation.
“I am appealing to both parties involved in this murder incident to assist police with more information and please refrain from taking any retaliation. Allow police to investigate and deal with the matter,” said Mr. Pogesopa.
