Saint Nicholas College donates towards Australian bush fire relief efforts

Saint Nicholas College has donated a total of $5000 towards the Australian bushfire fundraiser drive.

College Principal James Lengi when handing over the cheque at the Prime Ministers Officer this week (15/03/2020) emphasizes on the concept of imparting of Christian values by helping others during difficult or bad times.

“Though small in amount but it signifies the act of helping brothers and sisters in difficult times which we believe the students will carry on in their future career lives.”

“Australia has helped us developed in many areas,” he said adding that it is the college’s tradition that when disaster arises, they will render support in form of money donations like the Vanuatu cyclone relief, Guadalcanal and Temotu province.

Principal Lengi said the money collected are offerings from two church services they recently held- semester one opening and Ash Wednesday prayer attended by both students and parents.

The Anglican Church of Melanesia renowned college also has sister relationship with schools in Australia which they benefit a lot in cultural exchanges and other areas.

Chairman of the bushfire fundraiser committee Dr. Derek Mane sincerely thank St. Nicholas College administration, students and parents in responding to the government call for support in the fundraiser drive.

“Our whole intention is to give back to our true friend and so far St. Nicholas is the only school to donate.

“It signifies how schools and the church values the help Australia offered to us in past years,” Dr. Mane said.

In the meantime, the special committee overseeing the fundraiser drive will finalize the fundraising report for cabinet then presented to Australian Government by end of this month.
