About 20 officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) from police stations in Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province are attending a four-day Command Control training from 24 -27 August 2020 at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara.

The officers are mainly investigators from the National Criminal Investigation Department and Criminal Investigation Departments at the police stations in Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province

When opening the training Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention Simpson Pogeava says, “In March 2020 the RSIPF responded to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Solomon Island Government State of Public Emergency by activating the Police Operation Centre to command and control the RSIPF Operation COVID-19 resources and assets.”

“To ensure officers’ capabilities are up to standard, the RSIPF in partnership with the Solomon Island Police Development Program (SIPDP) have designed this training to ensure officers taking part in the COVID-19 Operation are equipped with the right skills to perform effectively. The plan is conduct seven more of such trainings both in Honiara and in the provinces by November this year.”

Assistant Commissioner Pogeava adds, “It is expected that at the conclusion of the training program more than 150 RSIPF officers from both Honiara and the provinces would have undertaken the Command Control Training.”

“I want to thank the Commissioner and his executive, who have seen it fit to run the training course and requested the SIPDP to design and fund the training. RSIPF’s own Command and Control trainers will run the training program with assistance from SIPDP advisors, “says AC Pogeava.
