RSIPF mourns the loss of a long serving officer

The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) mourns the loss of one of its long serving officers the late Police Sergeant Edwin Manuga who passed away in Honiara 22 February 2020 after a short illness.

A funeral service for the late Manuga was held in Honiara on 24 February before his body was transported back to his home village of Rakao at Takwea in north Malaita.

The late Sergeant spent most of his 30 years in the RSIPF with the Maritime Department after being recruited on 8 February 1990. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in April 1997.

During his time in the Maritime Department the late Sergeant Manuga attended several overseas courses including a Seamanship Training and other related courses in Australia at the Australian Maritime College where he was awarded with certificates in Elementary First Aid, Personal Survival Technics, Personal Safety and Social responsibilities, Fire Prevention and Firefighting and Marine Technical Propulsion level 2.

Late Manuga attained a wealth of knowledge and skills through the training courses he attended both locally and internationally.

During the funeral service for the late Sergeant Manuga, Acting Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force Mostyn Mangau said, “Let me assure the relatives and friends that the RSIPF salutes him and will continue to remember the legacy he has left behind, his positive contributions to the RSIPF to provide leadership in the Maritime Department in Honiara where he had served and spent most of his good time.”

“We valued so much the contributions of the late Police Sergeant Manuga to the RSIPF and the people of Solomon Islands.  The length of time he served was highly commendable and honoured by all ranks and files for unselfishly giving himself to serving the people of this country by enlisting into the RSIPF to protect life and property and to maintain law and order.” 

Acting Commissioner Mangau continued: “It is sad to note that his inopportune passing away caught him quickly and took his life. His passing away is not only a loss to you the wife and children, relatives and communities of Rakao village, Takwea in North Malaita, but also a great loss to the RSIPF.”

“I want to thank the family, relatives, friends and the community of Rakao of which the Late Sergeant Manuga was a member, for allowing him to serve in the RSIPF for 30 years. He will be long remembered by members of the RSIPF who he served with.”

The late Sergeant Manuga is survived by his wife and several children.
