A three-day regional workshop on procurement from 23 – 25 January 2024 was recently completed in Nadi, Fiji for various project officers within the Pacific region that are funded by World Bank. The main objective of the workshop was to contribute to the development of procurement and contract management skills in the Pacific countries through improved understanding and awareness of public sector procurement by familiarizing with current processes implemented by international organizations such as World Bank.

For Solomon Islands, Procurement Specialist Rodney Konale and National Project Manager Edrick Maeniuta represented the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP). The duo were very pleased to attend the workshop and are looking forward to implementing what they have learnt upon return.

SIRAP and the Second Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP2) are financed by the World Bank. These projects are being implemented by the Ministry of Communication and Aviation and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development to make the country’s airports safer, more efficient, and more climate resilient, while also delivering important upgrades to selected roads and bridges across the country.

Other investments under SIRAP and SIRAP2 include upgrades to Honiara and Munda International Airports, Santa Cruz (Lata) Airfield, along with improvements for seven bridges in Malaita, and roads in Noro, Western Province.
