Honiara, Solomon Islands, Friday 17 October, 2025 – Parliament will reconvene on Monday, 24th November 2025, following the completion of the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) review of the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

This follows Parliament’s approval today of a Motion of Special Adjournment moved by the Prime Minister, Honourable Jeremiah Manele. The adjournment will allow the PAC sufficient time to conduct hearings on the 2026 National Budget before it is brought back to the House for debate and passage.

In moving the motion, Prime Minister Manele said the adjournment is procedural but serves an important purpose in strengthening parliamentary oversight and accountability. He said the process ensures that the national budget is properly scrutinized before decisions are made on how public funds are spent.

“When Parliament adjourns, it does not mean that Parliament is idle. The work of Parliament continues through its Standing Committees. The hearings of the Public Accounts Committee are parliamentary proceedings. They are not separate from Parliament — they are Parliament in action,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister further emphasized that the Government welcomes the work of the PAC, describing it as an essential part of the democratic process that reinforces public confidence in how national resources are managed. He said every dollar appropriated by Parliament belongs to the people of Solomon Islands and must be used wisely, efficiently, and for its intended purpose.

He also noted that the 2026 National Budget will reflect the Government’s continued commitment to economic recovery, job creation, and improved service delivery, while addressing key challenges such as the rising cost of living and the need for greater investment in rural areas.

Prime Minister Manele reaffirmed that the adjournment demonstrates respect for Parliament and the institutions that uphold democracy, accountability, and the rule of law. He thanked all Members of Parliament for their support and cooperation as the Government and the PAC carry out this important phase of the Budget process.

Parliament will resume on Monday, 24th November 2025.
