Speaking during his weekly press conference today, Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau said that the matter was reported to the police and officers in Makira have responded to the call and have already arrested the suspect.

“The suspect is now remanded at the Kirakira Correctional facility as police investigation is still under way and the suspect will appear before the court on the 18th of this month (August)”, said Commissioner Mangau.

Mangau condemned the act as evil and barbaric. He also added that according to our culture, men as head of the family should provide some caring behaviours to females in our communities.

“I would like to appeal to all our parents as well, we must consider the safety of our children, especially our young females. They are vulnerable to face any challenges or issues”, said Mangau.

All communities in West Makira and anyone who might have any information on the incident are asked to come forward to the Makira Police Stations to help assist in the investigations.
