The Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services, Hon. Anthony Veke, Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and police advisors farewelled the former Commissioner  Matthew Varley and members of his family during a dinner hosted in Honiara on Friday 29 November 2019.

During farewell dinner Acting Commissioner Mostyn Mangau says, “The RSIPF will miss you Varley, but your contribution to the RSIPF, Government and people of Solomon Islands is very much appreciated.”

“I want to take this opportunity tonight to thank you Varley for the service you rendered as Commissioner of the RSIPF since 25 January 2017. I have learnt a lot from you and you have been a great mentor to members of the RSIPF Executive. Your family has become part of the RSIPF family and you are welcome to visit us anytime in the future.”

Speaking during farewell dinner, Minister of Police, National Security and Correctional Services Hon. Veke says, “I am here tonight on behalf of the Solomon Islands Government and the people of Solomon Islands to thank you, outgoing Commissioner Mathew Varley for your service to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, Government and people of Solomon Islands.”

“Your contribution by leading the RSIPF is much appreciated by the Government and people of Solomon Islands. The people through the social media have expressed their gratitude to you outgoing Commissioner Varley for your leadership of the RSIPF. You are one of the Commissioners who have contributed a lot to maintaining law and order through your leadership of the RSIPF,” says Hon Veke.

Hon Veke adds: “To you Mrs. Varley, thank you for allowing and supporting outgoing Commissioner Varley for the three years he served this country.”

The gifts Minister Veke presented to the outgoing Commissioner Varley and wife was a token of appreciation by the Government and people of Solomon Islands.

During the dinner RSIPF officers from the Rove Police Headquarters, Honiara City and the Traffic Department performed traditional dances to farewell outgoing Commissioner Varley and his family.

Outgoing RSIPF Commissioner Varley and his family flew out of Honiara on Saturday 30 November 2019.
