PM welcomes new NZ envoy to SI

PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has welcomed the newly appointed New Zealand High Commissioner to Solomon Islands Her Excellency Georgina Roberts.

In a brief meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister & Cabinet on Wednesday 14, H.E Roberts delivered her introductions to the Prime Minister in Te Reo Maori;

“Me mihi atu au ki a koe, e te Pirimia, ki te kawana o te whenua nei o Solomon Islands, i runga i te kaupapa o tenei hui hohonu i te ra nei. Ka haria au nga whakaaro pai o te kawana me nga tangata o Aotearoa/Niu Tireni ki a koe, kia a koutou katoa o tenei whenua. Tihei Mauriora!”

(I extend greetings to you, Prime Minister, to the Government of this land of Solomon Islands, in acknowledgment of the purpose of this important meeting today. I convey the good thoughts and wishes of the Government and people of Aotearoa/New Zealand to you, and to you all of this country.

H.E Roberts said she also looks forward in carrying out her new role in the Solomon Islands.

The New Zealand high commissioner said she would continue to embrace the good relationship between both countries and to endure the true principles of friendship.

“I believe our mutual objective is to partner and to engage with the Government and people of Solomon Islands,” H.E Roberts said.

She said New Zealand is also pleased with the development progress in the country.

“We will be here through thick and thin,” she assured the Prime Minister.

She also conveyed best wishes to Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare from his New Zealand counterpart Jacinta Arden.

Prime Minister Sogavare in response has welcomed H.E Roberts and acknowledged the strong relationship shared between both countries over the years.

“We are pacific islanders. We share common values built on trust and mutual respect. New Zealand and Solomon Islands share a long standing relationship that goes way back,” the Prime Minister acknowledged.

Prime Minister Sogavare also thanked the New Zealand Government for its continuous support in the various sectors in the country.

“Munda airport in particular like many other projects under the New Zealand bilateral aid program have made a difference in the tourism sector,” he said. The Prime Minister said he looks forward in working with the new high commissioner and other development partners through an open dialogue.
