The Prime Minister remarked, the process towards meaningful decentralisation and its realisation is now.

“As a responsible Government, we need to table the Federal Constitution on the floor of Parliament. In the process, the collective participation of our people in the governance of their affairs must be ensured,” Prime Minister Sogavare highlighted.

He stated, the government will provide the framework of our national unity for the decentralisation of power.

He further highlighted, collective participatory dialogue must be the vehicle upon which decisions are made as enshrined in the Constitution under the “framework of our national unity”.

“We must align ourselves under our legal structures and then we dialogue – we must enhance the process for dialogue as a way forward. The National Government has always been and will always be open for proper dialogue on national matters agreed for/by the leaders of this nation.”

Prime Minister Sogavare also encouraged all Members of Parliament to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge about the Federal Constitution to be able to deliberate constructively on its subsequent implications on national unity and shared goals.
