Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare this morning announced the passing of the Right Honourable Ezekiel Alebua, former Prime Minister of Solomon Islands.
Making the announcement on the floor of Parliament this morning, Prime Minister Sogavare said, “it is with a very heavy and sad heart that I announce to this Honourable House and to our nation the Passing of the Right Honourable Ezekiel Alebua, former Prime Minister of Solomon Islands at his home village in Haimatua at Avuavu in Weather Coast late last night, 7 August 2022.”
Prime Minister Sogavare said, the Late Rt Hon. Ezekiel Alebua served as the fourth Prime Minister of Solomon Islands from 1 December 1986 to 28 March 1989.
“He was the third person to hold the post of Prime Minister for our country when he took office in December 1986,” Prime Minister Sogavare stated.
All flags will fly at half-mast to pay homage to the late Rt. Hon. Alebua until after his funeral.
He adds, the government wishes to dedicate Wednesday the 10th of August in the Government Order of Business to pay homage to the Late Right Honourable Ezekiel Alebua. This will allow Members of Parliament to make their Obituaries to the contribution of the former Prime Minister to our nation.
“I on behalf of the government and the people of Solomon Islands offer our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives of the late Rt Honourable Ezekiel Alebua for his passing,” PM Sogavare expressed.
The body of the former Prime Minister will be laid to rest tomorrow, Tuesday 9th August at his home village of Haimatua, Avuavu in the Weather Coast of Guadalcanal.
