On 16th December 2024, a motion of no confidence was withdrawn in Parliament against Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele (PM JM).

It was a motion claimed to be initiated by government ministers and backbenchers themselves.

Eight days after the motion was withdrawn, on the eve of Christmas last year, 16 Government MPs and backbenchers signed a Memorandum of Demand (MoD) to the Prime Minister to address 10 logs of demands.

The first on the demand list was for the Prime Minister to reshuffle his Finance Minister former PM Manasseh Sogavare and his Deputy Prime Minister and Mines Minister Bradley Smoky Tovosia.

A recent exemption released to the media last week irked a very uneasy Sogavare who came out firing in the media blaming internal politics by very own members of GNUT who are trying to destabilise the Government.

Sogavare is aware of people in Cabinet who are leaking the exemptions and who are also part of the 16 MPs who signed the MoD that wants the finance portfolio.

Within the GNUT’s executive, the Prime Minister is regarded as number 1, DPM as number 2, Sogavare as number 3 and Namson Tran as number 4.

In Caucus on Tuesday this week, Sogavare and Tovosia proved their authority and supremacy as the ‘big boys’ in Government.

Sogavare unleashed his frustration to a faction within the government Chacha Bule’s People’s First Party, who he claimed instigated the instability since the MONC in December.

Sogavare commanded with an iron first and proved in Caucus that he is in control and that PM JM was just a political mannequin.

Sogavare has proven beyond doubt that even the 16-signed MPs could not remove him and Smoky.

Sogavare’s firm stance to stand up against PFP and those that try to destabilise GNUT must be praised. He is a true and firm leader.

He has proven himself to be a strong nationalist that will not bow down to anyone or faction that wants to destroy him or the government.

It is no doubt given his political track record as a very firm and bold leader he has ruled against odds in his political career, even standing firm against rioters during those challenging times.

One political analyst shared ‘Manele is the Prime Minister but Sogavare remains the commander in chief and he will never bow down to anyone.’

The deputy prime minister on the other hand shares a similar trait to Sogavare. Someone that will never bow down to political bickerers. A strategist that knows how to massage a group together, known as GNUT’s powerful political broker.

Both the DPM and the Finance Minister knows PM JM will never remove them; they are indispensable, absolute essential because they hold the balance to GNUT’s formation and solidarity.

Even 16 MPs will never break Sogavare and Smoky and PM JM knows very well that they will never bow down to anyone that threatens the core GNUT executive.
