Oge receives Good Service Award Medal from United Kingdom Scouts

British High Commissioner Dr. Brian Jones today on behalf of the United Kingdom Scouts delivered the “Good Service Award Medal” to Chief Commissioner of Solomon Islands Scout, Joe Billy Oge in Honiara.

The award is in recognition of Oge’s commitment to the development of Scouts in Solomon Islands.

Jones in congratulating Oge, highlights that the award was a recognition by the UK Scouts for his commitment to the Scouting Movement here. He adds that his work with Scouts is important as it also involves a lot of young people in the country.

Oge has been a key figure in the Solomon Islands Scouts Association since 2002 and has worked tirelessly to develop Scouting in the country. Recently, the movement has been boosted with the appointment of new and energetic leaders to support him advance the Scouting agenda— one of which is attaining independence from the UK Scouts, which Solomon Islands currently is a branch.

Oge in accepting the award, thanked Jones for his support to Scouts during his time here as the British High Commissioner.

He admits that he didn’t expect to receive such an award but he’s thankful for the recognition.

Oge has a wealth of experience in Scouting— both at home and in the region. He is currently the Chief Commissioner of SI Scouts since 2002 and he had also held the position of the Chairman to the Council of the South Pacific twice from 2004 to 2006 and from 2015 to 2017.
