NO LOCKDOWN, BUSINESS AS USUAL, SAYS GOV’T

The Government has announced that it is business as usual and there will be no lockdown following the announcement of the country’s first case this afternoon.

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare today announced that the country had lost its COVID-19 free status following the confirmation that one male returning students from the Philippines was tested positive for coronavirus and is now in isolation unit at the National Referral Hospital.

“Everything is normal until the government say otherwise. No restriction of movement, closure of public places. There is no general lockdown,” said Attorney General, John Muria Jr.

Secretary to Prime Minister Dr. Jimmie Rodgers said: “It is business as usual except that there will be lockdown on the two quarantine centers and the isolation ward at the unit.”

The two quarantine centres are based at GBR (old RAMSI base) and Chengs Centre (behind Tongs Building opposite KGVI).

Muria told SBMOnline that all schools must continue as normal there is no advise against schooling has been made by the responsible ministry, the Ministry of Education.

Muria said as reiterated by the PM, everything is going on as normal.

Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau said police would be beefing up security at the campsites liming access into and out of the camps.
