New transformer on test run, if successful, load shedding will end on Monday

Solomon Power is currently conducting transformer testing and if the tests are successful, load shedding will cease from Monday 5th August 2024.

In a statement tonight, Solomon Power said the following steps have been taken to bring the situation back to normalcy.

o Fault Investigation – Completed

o Procurement of Part – Completed

o Installation of Part – Completed

The Solomon Power statement stated that on 20th of July 2024, one of the power transformers at Lunga Power Station developed a fault and has resulted in reduction of the total transmission capacity of the Lungga power station by 10 MW. This was not sufficient to meet all of the customer demand of Honiara.

Solomon Power has implemented load shedding since the 22nd of July.

Many people had complained about Solomon Power’s load-shedding which has severely affected them in the past two weeks.
