New PRC Ambassador presents credential to the Governor General

The new Peoples Republic of China’s (PRC) Ambassador to the Solomon Islands, His Excellency Cai Weiming has presented his letter of credentials to Governor General, His Excellency Sir David Vunagi during a ceremony at Government House yesterday (Tuesday 12th December).

The presentation of credentials signifies the formalization of his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Solomon Islands. Ambassador Weiming is the second PRC Ambassador to be based in Honiara following the establishment of relations between Solomon Islands- Peoples Republic of China (PRC) in 2019.

In welcoming the Ambassador Weiming, Governor General, H.E Sir David Vunagi spoke high of the strategic and comprehensive relationship that Solomon Islands enjoys with the People’s Republic of China.

He said this relationship is forged by rich and diverse cooperation covering health, trade, commerce, sports, agriculture, education, fisheries, climate change, meteorology and disaster management, air services, rural development, sports diplomacy, police and security cooperation.

“It has been just four years since we established diplomatic relations in 2019 and within that period our relations have grown from strength to strength.

Governor General, H.E Sir David Vunagi is confident that under H.E Cai Weiming tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Solomon Islands, both countries will continue to meaningfully pursue their shared prosperity.

“Solomon Islands looks forward to work closely with you and your Government to strengthen the new form of partnership that integrate our two countries with the changing international system,” He remarked.

In response, PRC Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Solomon Islands His Excellency Cai Weiming conveyed cordial greetings and best wishes from President Xi Jinping and the government and people of People’s Republic of China to his Excellency the Governor General and the government and people of Solomon Islands.

Ambassador Weiming said he is deeply aware of the important responsibility and mission upon his shoulders.

“I will dedicate my utmost efforts to promoting bilateral relationship and cooperation in various fields and enhance the friendship between our peoples.

“I am convinced that Your Excellency and the government of Solomon Islands will provide firm support and assistance to me in carrying out this important mission,” Ambassador Weiming remarked.
