The Permanent Secretary for the Solomon Islands Ministry of Finance and Treasury, McKinnie Dentana, and Acting Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Sally Anne Vincent, officially opened the new Australia Solomon Islands Partnership for Governance (ASIP-Gov) Program Office in Honiara on 17 November 2022.
The opening marks the commencement of the next phase of partnership between the Governments of Solomon Islands and Australia to strengthen accountable and inclusive governance in Solomon Islands.
“The Solomon Islands Government is committed to maintaining a stable economy and implementing policies and practices for sustainable economic recovery and growth. We are proud of our long-standing partnership of many years with Australia on governance assistance. The start of this new phase brings Solomon Islands a step further along the path to improve governance and accountability, especially in the current challenging environment. The program has achieved many beneficial results in institutional strengthening, in areas such as human resources, public financial management, and policy reforms,” said Permanent Secretary Dentana.
“Solomon Islands has always been an important partner to Australia. We share a common vision of ongoing stability and security in our region, and both recognise that economic growth and accountable government is critical to achieving that goal. Solomon Islands has always achieved progress and reforms in governance. These have been led by many dedicated Solomon Islanders across Government, integrity agencies, the private sector and civil society. Through the new Governance program, Australia will continue to work closely with Solomon Islands in responding to needs and priorities. Success will only be achieved through strong partnership with the Solomon Islands Government”, said Acting High Commissioner, Sally Anne Vincent.
ASIP-Gov is a four-year Australia-funded initiative implemented in partnership with the people and Government of Solomon Islands, managed by Abt Associates.
