National Oratory Contest 2021 set for Sept 8 in Honiara

The 2021 national Speech contest is scheduled to take place on 8th September to mark and commemorate the International World Literacy Day.

This year’s speech contest theme is: Nurturing future leaders to become better speakers.

A statement from the organisers says unlike previous years, this year’s speech contest is very special as it includes primary school students as well.

The students will be competing is three different categories, junior category (Grade 4-Grade 6), Intermediate category Forms 1-form 3, and the senior category (form 4-Form 6).

Topics for the primary school category is NOT ALL WASTE IS WASTE, for the Intermediate category is NOT ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD (William Shakespeare) and the Senor category is SOLOMON ISLANDS NATIONAL MOTTO: TO LEAD IS TO SERVE:

The statement says each category is given a time limit and students are expected to speak within the given times.

Schools are encouraged to hold their own speech contests in their respective schools and select winners to come over to Honiara to take part in this National Oratory Contest.

The statement further states that schools in the provinces are encouraged to take part in the National Oratory Contest as it also a good platform for young students in the country to talk on topics of their interest and also to build students confidence and fluency in public speaking.

So far 12 schools that had already confirmed their participation include: Nguvia CHS, Perch Christian School, KGVI School, Waimapuru NSS (Makira), Selwyn College, Coronation School, Kukum Adventist High school, Saint Nicholas College, Norman Palmer School, Tenakoga Adventist High school, Kilusakwalo CHS (Malaita) and Chung-wah School.
