Met issues special weather advice as ‘Tropical Depression’ located off Temotu

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) has issued a special weather advice current for the entire country as a ‘Tropical Depression’ is located southeast of Tikopia Island, Temotu province.

In its number two special weather advisory as of this afternoon, SIMS says the tropical depression with a central pressure of 999 hectopascals was re-located near 13.1 degrees latitude south and 170.4 degrees longitude east.

“This is located approximately 104 nautical miles (192 kilometres) southeast of Tikopia island, Temotu province and is moving eastward at 10knots (18 kilometres per hour).”

The weather office (SIMS) says winds of 25 to 33knots (46 – 61 kilometers per hour) with rough seas and moderate swells (3.5-4.0m) expected over Temotu province.

“Winds of 15 to 25 knots (27 – 46 kilometers per hour) gusting up to 30 knots at times (55 kilometers per hour) expected over the remaining provinces. Seas will be moderate to rough with moderate swells (2.5-3.0m) over most waters. 

“Heavy rain and thunderstorms is expected over all provinces.”

SIMS strongly warns people to take extra precautionary measures as bad weather associated with the tropical depression poses threats to lives and properties.
