The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Jeremiah Manele is in Kigali,Rwanda for the twenty sixth (26) Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

The meeting was supposed to be held in 2020 but due to Covid-19, it was postponed since then till this year (2022). Minister Manele will attend CHOGM on behalf of the Hon. Prime Minister who is unable to attend the meeting.

His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles will officially open the CHOGM meeting on Friday 24th June 2022. However, meetings have already started on Sunday 19th June.

Foreign Minister Manele will attend the Small States meeting, Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting and the Leaders Retreat.

He will also have bilateral meetings on the margins of the CHOGM.

As a member of the Commonwealth, Solomon Islands attendance and engagement is very important. Through the Commonwealth, member countries discuss issues of concern and find practical solutions to address the needs and priorities of countries.

The Foreign Minister is accompanied by Ambassador Moses Mose, Deputy Secretary Mr Cornelius Walegerea and the Assistant Secretary for the Europe Desk, Ms Esther O’Brien.

The week-long summit is expected to attract over 5,000 participants from government, business, and civil society under the theme ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming’.
