A 45-yr-old male has been arrested on Malaita following the death of another man in a land-dispute related incident on Malaita.
Auki Police have arrested the suspect for the alleged murder incident of a 40-year-old male person at Kopo Village in Malaita Province on 14 January.
Acting Provincial Police Commander Malaita province, Inspector Charles Edward Koto says it is alleged that the suspect beat the deceased with a fire wood in the suspect’s house.
The deceased was transported to the Rohinari clinic and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Koto said information they received alleged that the murder was in relation to land issue between the two.
He said that the matter was reported to police and the suspect was arrested on 16 January 2022 and has been placed in police custody.
A post mortem was also conducted on the deceased’s body to ascertain the cause of death.
“The suspect still in police custody awaiting further dealings and a remand application.”
Koto calls on families and relatives of both the suspect and the deceased to refrain from taking the laws into their own hands and allow police to deal with the matter.
He sends his condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased for the loss of their loved one.
