Man arrested for alleged rape of his daughter

Police officers in Guadalcanal have arrested a 38 year old man alledged of raping his own 16 year old daughter in East Central Guadalcanal.

The incident which occurred last year but was just reported to the police on the 12th of August 2022, saw officers in Guadalcanal responded by going to the village and arrested the suspect.

Speaking during his weekly press conference this week, Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau said that the incidents happened in different dates and times last year and police have responded by arresting suspect after the reports were filed in.

“Investigations are still ongoing, the suspect is currently remanded at the Rove Correctional Facilities [and] the suspect will  appear at the Honiara Central Magistrate Court today (Thursday)” said Commissioner Mangau.

Mangau also said that such sexual offence is an ongoing issue in the country that every father and mothers need to standup together with other agencies to address it and provide guidance for their children.

“The suspect has the responsibility as a father to provide protection and care for his children, likewise the general public as parents, we are there to protect the safety and also provide guidance for our children as well”, he said.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Mangau has appealed to the people of East Central Guadalcanal to assist the police in their ongoing investigations.
