Minister for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) Honorable Franklyn Derek Wasi, has thanked the Government and people of New Zealand for their generous funding support towards the country’s cocoa sector.
Last Friday 11th October 2024, Minister Wasi received funding support of $100 thousand dollars for Cocoa tools from His Excellency (H.E) Jonathan Schwass, the New Zealand High Commissioner to Solomon Islands at the New Zealand high commission office.
His Excellency (H.E) Schwass said he is very delighted to be supporting the ongoing efforts to grow the cocoa industry and will continue to work closely with the Ministry in whatever areas it can help to grow the agriculture sector in Solomon Islands.
In response the Agriculture Minister said, it is with great honour and gratitude on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, and the hardworking cocoa farmers of our country, to express our sincere thanks to the Government and people of New Zealand for this generous contribution of tools and equipment worth SBD$100,000.00.
This donation Minister Wasi said; will be used for cocoa dryers comes at a critical time as we work to boost our agricultural productivity to improve the livelihoods of our farmers.
He further adds that MAL anticipated the equipments and tools that will be purchased through this funding, will greatly enhance the quality and quantity of cocoa production, allowing us to not only meet local demand but also expand into international markets.
Minister Wasi told His Excellency Schwass, your support goes beyond just these tools; it represents a commitment to helping us build sustainable and resilient agricultural practices. This contribution will empower our farmers, increase their earnings, and ultimately contribute to the economic development of our country.
“Once again, thank you New Zealand High Commission for this invaluable support. Together, we are building a stronger future for our people, and we look forward to continuing this meaningful partnership,” Minister Wasi said.
